Greetings from Gayleen

March 2026

This month has been besieged by the war in Iran and the resulting immediate high fuel costs. As the weeks tick by the broader concern is that we are facing tremendous fuel shortages and the possibility of running out.

The regional areas have been the quickest to run dry or faced with very low stocks. The impact is greatest on our primary producers, mining and transport of all commodities, including food. Already costs have started to escalate in many sectors including manufacturing and construction.

Fuel restrictions, working from home and four days’ weeks are all on the cards in the foreseeable future. Let’s hope the conflict is resolved swiftly and fuel shortages end quickly.

There are so many consequences from this conflict to our economy. Drive tourism in regional Queensland is already feeling the effects, with many people changing plans due to both the costs and fear of lack of fuel. I hope we can fill up and get out to support them over Easter. Many communities have already faced economic challenges as a result of the flooding events of this year, most recently as a result of Cyclone Narelle.

Congratulations to our Cameron and his wife Jamie who welcomed a baby boy mid-month.  I am currently enjoying a few days in Brisbane to support the growing family.

Thank you for your continued support and I wish you a very Happy Easter with friends and family.
