Greetings from Gayleen

– April 2024

I hope you all enjoyed the nice Easter break, the rain continued across Queensland however the dragon flies are about which signals the start to the dry season and our perfect Queensland weather ahead.

The council elections have been decided with several changes of the guard in many regions including on the Cape in Cairn Townsville and in many communities in Central & Western Queensland. Congratulations to all the elected Mayors and Councillors across our regions. We thank you for your service to our communities and we are excited to see the changes and development your leadership will bring to us all.

Like many of us it has been a long time between holidays and travels for Colin and I; 2018 was in fact the last time 😊. We are currently in Europe where we celebrated Anzac Day, and have a much- anticipated trip to Gallipoli.

It was an honour to watch the changing of the guard on ANZAC day in Athens. Australia came to the aid of Greece after the German invasion during WWII. Anzac Day holds a special place in the hearts of Australians, regarded as one of the most significant occasions on the Australian calendar. It’s a day where the nation pauses for reflection, honouring the bravery and sacrifice of our service men and women, both past and present. Many believe it’s a time when Australians feel their national identity most deeply. It serves as a poignant reminder that the dedication and sacrifices made by our military personnel truly matter, underscoring the enduring respect and gratitude of the nation.
