Greetings from Gayleen

February 2026

The biggest talk amongst employers currently is the implementation and requirements of the ‘Pay Day Super’ which must be in place by July. This new initiative is a huge burden on resources and cash flow for many organisations. Interestingly, in the working life of an employee it will have made very little/minute difference to their retirement super fund balance. More cost and more red tape to business.

As part of the Disaster Recovery Fund which is focussed on boosting tourism after the 2025 floods, the State Government has announced funding for the Outback ‘Queensland It’s Something Else’ initiative. It will run from March 1st to 30th June to support businesses and tourism. Towns, regions and shires including Longreach, Winton, Charleville, Quilpie, Diamantina, Bulloo, Paroo and Barcoo will all benefit with increased tourist numbers.

The program highlights the landscape, hospitality and incredible tourism experiences available in this wonderful and unique part of Australia. In addition, Lee Kernaghan is planning shows in the Outback at the same time, very exciting.

In addition, regional Queensland has been granted 7.6 million by the State Government to deliver 30 new and upgraded tourism experiences across the state. This is the first round of funding from the State Government $20 million Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund. This is all a fantastic boost up for regional and outback Queensland in a time when they are desperately needing our support.

Meanwhile, flooding continues with some annual rain totals falling in just days in western communities with many roads and towns cut off. Sadly, the famers are still counting costs of the flooding with over 100,000 head and 3,000 km of fencing lost in this wet season alone.

Hopefully the flood waters subside quickly, and we can all get out west to support these regions in their time of need and enjoy all there is to offer in our beautiful State.

Precruitment is proud to sponsor the Aurukun Shire Council Deadly Awards again this year. We have supported the awards since its inception in 2018, which celebrates incredible employees and volunteers, recognising commitment, pride and positive impacts on the community.

It’s great to be back in the tropics after a short family visit in the UK. It was cold but fun.

The new year has seen an influx of activity with some great candidates and great jobs across many skills sets and professions available. Don’t hesitate to contact me or our team if we can assist you with career opportunities or if you need skilled staff to join your team.
