Greetings from Gayleen – June 2019
I am currently writing to you from Emerald in central Western Queensland. It is the time of year that Colin and I venture out in our van zigzag our way across Queensland to visit some of our more remote and regional clients.
We started our trip this year in Canberra where Colin had helped to organise a commemorative ceremony of a major battle in Vietnam, the battle of Binh Ba which he was involved in as an officer in the armoured corp. It was a very special day that was telecast live across the country from Anzac Avenue. Colin was honoured to lay a wreath at the service and again at the war memorial last post ceremony in the evening. I was very proud of him. Many of the soldiers he served with were in attendance and we were also honoured to meet the Chief of Army at the service.
Our travels to date have taken us to Charleville in Murweh Shire, Cunnamulla in Paroo Shire, Thargomindah in Bulloo Shire, Quilpie, Barcoo, Bedourie, Boulia, Winton, Longreach, Barcaldine, Blackall to our current location Emerald. Please get your maps out to see just how far and remote we have travelled.
We have made this trip to visit our clients each year for over ten years and for much of this time we have experienced the devastation of drought. While some areas are still in drought recent floods have created a beautiful and promising green landscape across these regions. Unfortunately stock levels are low with many properties having had to de-stock as a consequence of the many years of drought. The landscape is now looking just amazing with green desert, running creeks and waterways and fantastic bird life.
The people that we visit are, as always, warm and welcoming and make our travels such a pleasure. They all say that they appreciate our annual trips to see them and that we know their regions and the challenges and the beauty of the country. This helps us to provide great service to these most valued clients when they need help with recruitment across a diverse range of skills for both temporary and permanent roles. I have posted some great photos on our Facebook and Instagram pages, make sure you follow us!
I look forward to reporting on the rest of our travels in our next Previews.
