A belated Happy New Year to everyone

It was not quite the Christmas and New Year we had all hoped for with more sudden border closures disrupting personal and business plans.   However, I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing break with some family or friend time.  I think we all enjoyed having at least a few days relaxation after the fiasco of 2020.

It is great news that COVID vaccinations are soon to be rolled out as it gives us some expectation that our world will go back to some sort of normality and that domestic and international travel will eventually open up.

The wet season is here.  At home, we had 514mm of rain and 17 rain days in January.  A good wet season is so important to our environment here in the tropics.  It is great to see the country so green and to know that some of the rain has gone into Western Queensland giving our farmers and graziers a fabulous start to 2021. 

The state of the economy in regional Queensland is very worrying for many people.  Unemployment is unacceptably high and expected to grow with the end of job-keeper payments and the end of government and bank support of business. Our farmers are destroying crops as they cannot find farm workers to pick and reap their produce.  Also, China continues to place sanctions on our exports and threaten our economy further.

At Precruitment we continue to see shortages in some skill sets as the lack of travel and availability of skilled workers in several sectors is an issue.  We are blessed that we are healthy and live in a most beautiful part of the world. I am sure as we continue to work together the light will shine again on Queenslanders and our economy.
