Greetings from Gayleen
– May 2020
Finally, we are seeing some of the restrictions lifted for local business and travel. Schools are open and people are getting back to work. With almost zero virus cases in regional Queensland we are enjoying getting out and about and supporting the business community. Unemployment will remain high for the foreseeable future. Thankfully, JobKeeper and other government initiatives will help us to get through this economic crisis.
We all hope to see domestic borders opening soon so that we can benefit from the return of tourism to our regions and a boost to the local economies.
Recruitment has been interesting. With many businesses having their staff work from home they are unable to employ new staff. In some areas new employees have been required to self-isolate before starting in their new position. With the lifting of restrictions, we should see a start to new opportunities in the employment market.
There are some major mining and large infrastructure projects that have been announced which will boost the economy and increase job opportunities across the region. There are building and tourism stimulus packages on the table, all designed to help us recover.
