Greetings from Gayleen

Olympics, employment, and welcome Sharon!
How fantastic that our girls have won Gold in 4×100 Relay at the Olympics, and they broke the world record by 3 seconds. Congratulations to Cate, Bronte, Meg and Emma. Our first Gold which was soon followed by the amazing swim of Ariane Titmus in the 400 freestyle, beating legendary champion swimmer Katie Ledecky from the US. Ariane followed up with a 2nd Gold in the 200. Kaylee McKeown finished with Gold in the 100 backstroke. The men and women have won Gold in rowing. There are lots more fantastic medals and wins, these are just the first few as we go to press. Go team Australia, you are a highlight and inspiration to us all, especially in this crazy Covid world we are in. It is exciting news that we will be hosting the 2032 Games in Brisbane, and hoping it brings economic benefits to our regions.
With most of the country shut out of Queensland, our domestic tourism bubble and boost has burst. Many tourism operators reported up to 90% cancellations, Smack on the school holidays the timing could not be worse. Many small businesses had restocked, invested and employed additional staff in readiness for the anticipated high numbers of tourists.
Employment opportunities are still strong in several sectors. However, we are finding that people from all professions are a little reluctant to make changes and employment moves in these uncertain economic times. The shortage of international students, backpackers, travelers and skilled migrants continues to be an issue creating huge demand for staff.
We welcome Sharon Naismith to our team at Precruitment. Sharon is our dedicated Operations Coordinator/Administrator. Sharon recently moved to Cairns to join family after 10 years in her previous busy and varied administration role for a Melbourne manufacturing company. That company could not speak highly enough of her dedication, great customer service and multitasking ability, they miss her dearly, but we are delighted to have her join our team. I am sure all our clients and candidates will enjoy working with Sharon with her warm personality and strong customer service focus.
Congratulations to Brian Hayden from SMEC who won our hamper at the Chamber Lunch this month. It was an interesting presentation at the function by the Council who are actively seeking support for much needed water security in Far North Queensland.
