Greetings from Gayleen

– August 2019

Beautiful weather, team activities & some great economic news…

We have all been enjoying the beautiful winter weather which has seen some record overnight lows and perfect sunny days. No wonder the locals love our winter and the tourists have been flocking to the north. Cairns has enjoyed several days of festivities with the Cairns festival. Colin & I enjoyed the parade of entertainers and floats which was followed by a fantastic fireworks display. Well done Cairns you have really put on a great show.

Team Activity – ‘Vibe me Up’ from Andrea Tunjic

Our team has loved participating in a trial program produced by Andrea Tunjic from People Strong. Each day for 3 weeks we complete a short activity that comes to our inbox. The program is designed to get you feeling great and to help you work through the challenges of work or home and be happy and positive for what we do have. 12 days in and I know I look forward to my daily challenge and I can personally say it has helped me through some disappointments and difficult days. Andrea will soon formally launch the program ‘Vibe Me Up’ to the wider market and our clients. We promise to keep you updated.

Meet A Recruiter

We recently hosted Meet A Recruiter event in our office. Precruitment and CBC worked together to deliver this great program for our community. Over 50% of people that attended had never received professional recruitment advice before. I was thrilled to read the stories of the impact we had on some attendees.

Chamber Lunch

The Chamber lunch provided an interesting presentation from ReGen Plastics who are an innovative NQ Company that have developed some amazing products with recycled plastics including construction and building materials. Check out their website here, it is very interesting. Tesla also gave a presentation on their innovations with Solar power storage and the future of electric cars.

News of the North

To help boost our economy it is pleasing to see the North West Queensland Economic Diversification plan has been revealed. It includes multimillion-dollar funding from State and Federal Governments and is aimed at shielding the economy from mining booms and busts as well as severe weather events. There has been some positive  progress with Adani who have been granted a licence to build the 200km rail link to the Carmichael mine. Townsville is soon to be hosting a major conference on live exports with the theme ‘Welfare beyond borders’. The aim is to improve the supply chain, infrastructure and animal handling and lead in modernising and improving the trade.
